A Dutch wind is blowing on Lorient's Volvo Ocean Race

During the Lorient Stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race, from June 9th to the 16th, the Dutch embassy will have its own Pavilion at the Lorient BSM. Don't miss among the various animations the creature from The Hague "the beach beast"...

The Dutch pavilion wants to promote to the public the Netherlands, next stopover in the toughest offshore race.

Sharing the same passion for the ocean as the Breton, Netherlands seaze the opportunity of the Lorient stopover to share with breton's people their culture, innovating products "Dutch design" and their typical food. Visitors will be able to taste the famous caramel waffles, as well as their small crepes soufflé "poffertjes", all freshly prepared on the Race Village. Not to mention the Gouda cheese and many other dairy products from "the other country of cheeses"

The beach beast (Animaris Ordis) created by the artist Theo Jansen comes to life when the wind awakes. It will stroll along in the Village. The installation, built with yellow plastic tubes, looks like a big skeleton. As it is the case for many Dutch creations, it fears neither rain nor storms.

The Dutch pavilion will also be a meeting point for local entrepeurs in order to strengthen economical relations between France and Netherlands. Team Brunel and its skipper Bouwe Bekking will obviously have their reserved quarters in this pavilion. We are looking forward to see there Lauren Pagès, a French member of team Brunel (injured in Auckland).

In this edition of the Volvo Ocean Race, Dutch sailors are present in three teams : Team Brunel, team SCA and Team Vestas (back in the race in Lisboa)

Team Jolokia

Come discover this unusual project aboard a former Volvo Ocean Race boat.  The crew is entirely based on diversity (disabled, valid, men, women, young, old…) and decided to use their differences as an asset.

Lorient, an open access

Pontoons are open to the public (except during boarding hours of the racing crews) and they are the unique occasion to come and admire those racing beasts and, who knows, exchange a few words with the technical staff or the sailing crew of the racing teams…
