A leg which included one of the most popular video clips of the entire Race plus a string of ground-breaking live interviews left judges for the Inmarsat MCM Award once again spoiled for choice.

Hamish Hooper, already a twice-winner of the leg prize, captured an extraordinary moment during the race from Miami to Lisbon when Chuny Bermúdez avoided a whale with a last-second swerve while at the helm for CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand.

The video proved an immediate YouTube sensation and was replayed repeatedly online and by broadcasters around the world.

For this plus another solid bank of superb multi-media content from the red boat during the 11-day, 3,590-nautical mile leg, Hooper collected another nomination for the Inmarsat award.

He faces stiff competition from Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing’s Nick Dana who delighted fans with fantastic live coverage from his team´s victory including an unforgettably emotional interview with skipper Ian Walker.

Our third nomination goes to Yann Riou, another twice-winner of the award, who delivered live early-morning interviews with daily French television channels Franck Cammas and followed through with another stunning set of images and stories.

"The MCMs have come of age,” said Chris McLaughlin, Inmarsat’s Vice-President External Affairs.

“Using Inmarsat FleetBroadband all six delivered outstanding global media output across the Atlantic, even making the world's news feeds as they dodged whales.

“But three MCMs have to be chosen to count toward the overall prize of 10,000 euros and after a lot of consideration we plumped for Yann, Hamish and Nick.”

The judges’ final placings will be decided on Thursday and made public that night at the Gala Prize Dinner in Lisbon.
